Ambulance Victoria review – Update 20 (18 June 2024)

Work on phase 3 of the Commission review into Ambulance Victoria is now underway. This phase comprises a progress evaluation audit, assessing the organisation’s implemention of the 25 priority recommendations from phase 1.

18 June 2024

I’m pleased to provide the 20th update on the Commission’s Independent review into workplace equality at Ambulance Victoria.

Since my last update, the review has transitioned into phase 3, the Progress Evaluation Audit. During this period, we will be assessing the progress of Ambulance Victoria’s implementation of the 25 priority recommendations from phase 1.

The priority recommendations cover various aspects of Ambulance Victoria’s organisational culture and transformation journey, including prevention and safety, reflective practice, governance, reporting, organisational capability, flexible work arrangements, equal representation and pay progression.

This work is a critical mechanism in providing Ambulance Victoria an independent assessment of the progress of their workplace transformation. It will reinforce the rigour, transparency and integrity of the review process, supporting Ambulance Victoria in its ongoing transformation of workplace culture and systems.

The progress evaluation audit will involve interviews and focus groups with key stakeholders at Ambulance Victoria, as well as a survey for all current employees and volunteers. The progress evaluation audit will conclude in November 2024, at which time we will present our findings and opportunities for further development in a public report.

Written submissions

While the Commission will be engaging directly with staff with key responsibilities and perspectives on the implementation of the recommendations, we are no longer taking written submissions as part of the review, including those relating to experiences of discrimination, sexual harassment, victimisation or bullying at Ambulance Victoria. These submissions were concluded in phase 1 of the review and informed the recommendations currently being audited.
