Ambulance Victoria review – Update 21 (4 July 2024)

Phase 3 of the Commission’s review of Ambulance Victoria is well underway. The progress evaluation audit is assessing the organisation’s progress on implementing the 25 priority recommendations from Phase 1 of the review.

4 July 2024

I’m pleased to provide an update on the Commission’s Independent review into workplace equality at Ambulance Victoria.

Work on Phase 3 of the review, the progress evaluation audit, has been continuing at a rapid pace. Since my last update, the Commission has launched the workforce survey which is open to all current Ambulance Victoria staff until 7 July 2024.

The survey will help the Commission to understand the experiences of Ambulance Victoria’s current workforce and their perspectives on progress towards implementing the 25 priority recommendations from Phase 1. If you haven’t received an email about the survey, please contact AVreview@veohrc.vic.gov.au for assistance.

The Commission has also been conducting interviews and focus groups to assess Ambulance Victoria’s progress. So far, we have spoken with almost 60 members of staff working at varying levels and with diverse levels of responsibility for implementing the recommendations. I would like to thank everyone who has attended an interview or focus group for their time and contributions so far.

Additionally, the Commission has received implementation data from Ambulance Victoria. This includes more than 1900 written documents, which we are analysing. The coding and analysis stage will continue throughout July and August, after which the Commission aims to have established preliminary audit findings.

Alongside this work, the Commission is considering formatting options for the progress evaluation audit final report – including options for easily accessible digital resources. I will share updates on the agreed format for the final report in the coming months.

Where can I go if I need help?

As mentioned in my June update, we are not taking written submissions during Phase 3 of the review. If you have experienced discrimination, sexual harassment, victimisation or bullying and need support, you may wish to see our support service and referral directory.

If you would like to speak with someone about other opportunities for addressing unlawful behaviour, you can contact our Enquiry Line on 1300 292 153 for more information.

Stay up to date on the progress of the review

I’ll continue to share monthly updates on our progress throughout Phase 3 of the review. If you would like to sign up to our distribution list in the meantime, please email the AV review team at AVreview@veohrc.vic.gov.au. Until then, stay well and keep warm.

Warmly

Ro Allen
Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commissioner
