27 August 2021
I’m pleased to provide the ninth update on the Commission’s Independent review into workplace equality in Ambulance Victoria.
I appreciate this update comes to you in the context of Melbourne’s sixth and regional Victoria’s seventh lockdown. These are incredibly trying and challenging times, and I hope you are all taking care of yourselves.
Since my last update, the team and I have been continuing our work to develop the Commission’s findings and recommendations to inform the final report.
As we have reviewed transcripts of the interviews, submissions and focus groups, I have been struck by the courage and dedication to contributing to a positive culture that is clear from each and every one of them.
We received overwhelming interest to participate in the review, and in doing so, people who shared their experiences with us took time out of their day, after nightshifts or on their days off to tell us their stories and share ideas for change.
It is clear to me how much care and passion there is to ensure Ambulance Victoria is a safe, fair and inclusive workplace for everyone.
It has been the Commission’s privilege to speak with so many of you and thank you for trusting us to do so. The review would not have been possible without you. Your contributions are invaluable and are shaping both our understanding of the state of workplace equality in Ambulance Victoria and what needs to change.
I’ll be in touch next month with a further update, as the Commission’s report continues to take shape.
I hope that you are your families are staying safe.
Ro Allen
Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commissioner
